Gardeners Cottage has undergone a full refurbishment in 2022 and is now under new ownership. No expense has been spared throughout to make this an immaculate sanctuary for your time away. The refurbishment also includes the addition of a new boiler to provide plenty of heating and hot water for the chillier times of year.
The cottage itself has a lovely sitting area with a great flat screen TV for those cosy nights in. Leading off the lounge there is a great kitchen which is well equipped for your stay. It has a lovely dining table by the french windows, which lead out to a small patio where you can enjoy early morning coffee or pre dinner drinks, or just to sit and enjoy the peace!
There is also a downstairs cloakroom next to the stairs which lead to the first floor. Here there are two lovely double bedrooms, both with en suite bathrooms, one with a shower and one with a bath and shower over the bath. Both are lovely rooms with comfortable double beds, great for a comfortable nights sleep.
Set within the stunning grounds of the Saltmoore Estate with some fantastic walks within the grounds and Sandsend beach is just a 15 minute walk away this is a great base to enjoy the lovely East Coast.
**Please note that although the cottages are completely separate from Saltmoore, the hotel itself is currently undergoing a significant refurbishment and is closed until October 2024. Building work will be ongoing through this period on site**

Lovely cottage, construction work.spoilt views
21 February 2024
Loved the cottage, a few cobwebs, shower head could do with a clean. Loved the welcome hamper. This was an alternative cottage offered due to the original one Discovery Cottage being xancelled . Recycling bins were overflowing and the lovely views were spoilt due to ongoing construction work ( diggers, rubble, old mattresses etc) . Would have expected to have been notified about the work and maybe offered a discount at least. Also poor lighting outside at night time was a bit of a hazard. Used our phones. Would not recommend until work around the Hall has been.completed. Would then be happy to revisit.
A lovely cottage

Cleanliness - Overall excellent. Reason for 4 - previous occupants clothes left in wardrobe drawer (has happened on a previous stay too! Room with bath has bacteria under bath tap as black from water/soap build up causing the bacteria build up. Needs a bit of mildew remover. Love The new flooring in the bathroom and all the new decor. Very beautiful, well done! Customer service - I did ask if we might get a bit of a discount as we've been a few times. Was told no. Even 5% would be lovely as repeat visitors. Just think it's good customer relations personally. Comfort - Very comfortable for 3! I sat in the chair by the window as had guests come to visit. Would have preferred a softer seat. Condition - Excellent. Location. Great, but now building work going on a bit messy. Value for money. Good overall as it warrants a higher price tag as it's a very lovely cottage, but as I said above, repeat business maybe get a discount or offers when not in use or when out of season perhaps?
HEAVEN ON EARTH Relaxing cottage with walking distance to the sea, woods & stately gardens hotel

We visited Gardeners cottage around six months ago, We loved it that much we have been back four times the cottage is clean & tidy check in is super easy staff are a phone call away if needed the cottage is situated in a idyllic peaceful spot within a few minutes walk from some woods and a running beck, theres a beautiful hotel within a few minutes walk with stately gardens and lake the cottage is hidden away the beach is around seven to ten minutes walk or five minutes if you walk the back way through the woods Whitby is a five minute drive if needed Gardeners cottage has all the cooking amenities but if you fancy a walk to sands end you can try the best fish & chips EVER at fish cottage theres also a lovely pub called The hart in the beer is great the food is all home cooked the staff & locals are friendly sands end beach is beautiful i love the vast openness with nothing built up around you the cottage is peaceful with the birds singing and pretty flowers all around i call this place MY HEAVEN ON EARTH I wish i could attach some images to this review to show how beautiful this place is

Just our cup of tea
13 March 2023
The cottage was virtually perfect. Comfortable beds, clean, everything was new, lovely position even in a chilly March. We were 2 couples and all of us were impressed . However the bedroom TVs which rely on a tv app would not allow connection until the cookies warning was enabled and we could not enable or reject them. This did not affect our stay just thought you should know. I would also suggest that the connection with the the hotel and its bar/restaurant/facilities should be advertised more as it wasnt really mentioned in the welcome booklet, we found info about it on the Raithwaite website but Im not sure it was up to date. We would stay again. Thanks
New Year break
5 January 2022
We had a 3 night stay for New Year. We liked the position of the cottage but we were disappointed with the facilities. We couldnt get the TVs in the bedrooms to work. A hairdryer in 1 bedroom didnt work. And on New Years Eve we didnt have any hot water. We turned on a switch we believed would be the immersion heater and contacted emergency support. We had cold showers. The next morning the water was hot but the boiler made a loud noise when we turned the thermostat down. We feel the property lacks sufficient crockery for 4 people to make a meal. The cafetière was for 1 person but there is a coffee machine with some pods provided. The hamper provided was a nice touch. The towel rail in the second bathroom worked intermittently. The TV in the lounge is difficult to operate so we used our computer

Quiet, comfortable, warm, well equipped and well positioned. Very attractive cottage set in beautiful grounds, with parking right outside the door and pretty gardens to walk in. The sea was a pleasant walk through woodland and farmland. Heating was efficient, and gave us plenty of hot water. There was plenty of china and cutlery, all clean and well cared for. We arrived to find d a glorious guest bag, generously full of local (and useful) goodies!
Fabulous place near the sea but no extras provided in the cottage
24 August 2021
We have stayed at the Raithwaite cottages 3 times this year and love the position they are in near beautiful Sandsend beach but our last stay there on 18th August 2021 there was no welcome pack at all and no toiletries which although this maybe due to covid restrictions we were given earlier in the year and so were disappointed when there was nothing at all.

We stayed for a week in this cottage and couldnt fault anything. It is beautifully decorated and comfortable with quality furnishings and fixtures & fittings. The location was perfect for us, great walks into Sandsend and Whitby. Very peaceful, feels like you are in the middle of the countryside but with great facilities on your doorstep. We will defo be back!
