Quirky, a tucked away gem, an amazing little space. Those are just some of the words and terms we’ve used recently to try and describe Minster Loft, but really it’s far better to come and see it for yourself to truly appreciate this one bedroom loft apartment.
Located at the top of a historical listed building, the apartment is also right next door to the birthplace of the infamous Guy Fawkes. So you are immediately immersed in the history of the city. It’s also incredibly well positioned too. Just stepping out of the door puts you within a two minute walk of all the attractions in the city and also the renowned shopping streets of Stonegate and Low Petergate are literally on the doorstep.
There are many period features on show within the apartment that are apparent as soon as you open the door. They are also very nicely complimented by the choice of furnishings throughout. There is a stylish galley kitchen complete with electric oven and hob and also a dining table to seat up to 4 for dinner. The lounge area also has a wall mounted LCD TV where you can relax with a luxury coffee from the coffee machine provided.
The bedroom has a stunning view of York Minster, you feel like you can reach out and touch it. The bed can also be made up as a double or a twin. There is also a very modern looking shower room located opposite the bedroom.
Minster Loft at a glance:
- Tasteful presentation and period features throughout
- Fantastic York Minster views from the bedroom window
- City centre location with all that York has to offer right on the doorstep
- Stylish shower room
- One flexible bedroom. This can be set up either as one double bed or twin beds.
Please be aware that this is a second floor apartment with no lift access. The apartment also has a restricted head height in places due to the angle of the roof so not recommended for people over 5'11. Paid for parking is available close by - please enquire for details.
Where's the coffee machine?
The location of this apartment is excellent, being only a couple of hundred yards from the Minster. It's also very nice to step out of the door and find yourself in the very heart of York. The apartment itself was less than ideal however. Firstly it could have been cleaner. There were cobwebs hanging from the very low ceiling, which was a little off putting. In addition, the flat is actually on the third floor of the building rather than the second, as it says in the description, and the final very cramped flight of stairs could be very challenging for many people. The description on the site makes much of the luxury coffee machine so it was also disappointing to discover that this simply doesn't exist. Is the description out of date or simply dishonest? One small cafetiere does not qualify as a luxury coffee maker. It could also be clearer that the microwave and main oven are one and the same - a combination. One other revue said that they couldn't find the microwave and their confusion is understandable. Finally, one half of the double bed is actually on such a sloping piece of floor that the person trying to sleep on that side will find themselves rolling into the middle. We eventually had to rotate the bedding ninety degrees so that we could actually get a comfortable night's sleep! The description needs to be updated and the bed needs to be rotated in order to address the main issues with the flat. Until that is done, it would be difficult to recommend this flat to others.
Perfect location
Excellent location and we could only have been closer to the Minster if we'd camped in the nave
Just to start with the cons, it is up three flights of stairs, but as a lazy person I did not find them excessive. Also the ceiling beams are low, especially in the bedroom but not excessively so. Those quibbles aside it is a great apartment and fantastic location. It's self-catering, and as such probably under-used by ourselves, but if we'd been staying longer than four days I'm sure we'd have made use of the extensive facilities. Given everything else provided i was surprised at the lack of a microwave, but as I say we weren't cooking for ourselves on this occasion, and as there was a hob/oven we might not have missed it if we had been. There was also a useful info pack giving information on the various devices, heating and aircon etc, though it should have included a note on the taps which took me a while to figure out (they had to be lifted, not pushed down!) :-) All in all an ideal place to stay, especially for an extended period, and I'd be happy to go back again
Access and roominess
Great Location
This amazing little apartment made our weekend extra special. Check in was 4pm but we received a message letting us know we could check in early, which was a bonus. Just a 15 minute walk from the train station and we arrived at our destination. There was a thoughtful little welcome pack at the apartment filled with teabags, coffee, milk, biscuits etc which was very much appreciated. The apartment was warm, welcoming and very clean. And the view from the bedroom window was WOW with the Minster right next door. The location couldn't be any better. Restaurants and quaint little pubs right on our doorstep. The fact that we were in the middle of everything we needed made our weekend so much easier. We could just pop back to base when we needed to put our feet up or drop stuff off. The bed was so comfy. Had some of the best nights sleep ever. We will definitely return for a stay here.
Perfect
Perfect
Stunning attic flat literally across the road from York Minster. Perfect base for discovering York. We added another night to our stay because of the accommodation. My only warning would be if youre not good with stairs then this being an attic property might not suit. Otherwise - every window a stunning view. Getting woken up by Minster bells os a joy! AAA+++++++++
Great stay
Amazing location
This flat is in the best possible central location. Right in York City Centre, it's in walking distance of all major attractions in town. York Minster is literally a 30 second walk away! There is a clothes washing machine and drying rack, mini fridge, stove, oven, toaster, etc. The amenities and the location are great. Very charming street and flat. I felt at home here! There was even a nice little welcome bag of treats waiting for me. A few things for travelers to keep in mind: I had an issue with the bottom lock on the front door to the building and management helped right away, even after emergency hours. Try and arrive during Stays York office hours if you can so you can test open the lock, just in case. The bed is comfortable but it seems to be two twin mattresses pushed together. That, combined with the slope of the floor in the bedroom, was not ideal, but ultimately I did still sleep okay. (The flat is on the 4th floor, up 3 flights of stairs, and I don't think it would be possible to get a regular sized mattress up the loft stairs.) I ran out of toilet paper while there during my 5 night stay and had to buy my own. The 2 rolls provided are more air than paper, so they don't last long. In spite of a few quirks, I really appreciated having a safe and comfortable home base while visiting York, and still deeply appreciate the quick assistance provided when I had an issue. I would recommend Stays York snd Minster Loft to other travelers. Thank you!
Great place to stay and lovely staff
Had a great stay and perfectly situated in the centre of York with an amazing view of the Minster which is essentially across the road. Super helpful staff who assisted with a minor (self-inflicted!) issue. Only real downsides are the stairs to get to it (travel light!) and low ceilings, which are to be expected in an historic building. However otherwise a great place to stay.
Weekend stay
Access to the apartment
A perfect hideaway in the centre of York
Ok, let me start with a negative. This accommodation is not for tall people. However, I am only 5'5'' so this was IDEAL for me. This is the most fabulous find right next to York Minster. It is an original attic with exposed beams, slanted ceilings, and more character than you can shake a stick at. A beautiful shower room, the comfiest of beds, fully fitted kitchen, and even a little starter pack with tea, coffee, milk, shortbread, crisps, and chocolate. There is no lift so the 3 floor climb is no to be underestimated, or taken lightly, but the view is well worth it. Clean, well appointed, and with excellent wifi, this is somewhere I will look out for on any return visits to York.
Excellent visit

Cute place at a prime location. If you're tall, you'll do a bit of crouching, especially through the doorways. The bedroom as an amazing view of the York Minster. The people in charge responded to messages promptly. The place comes with some amenities, like some cookware, clothes washer, and a drying rack. They left us a little package with some little snacks, tea, and coffee.

Perfect location and a lovely flat for a couple or individual. Everything was in 10 mins of the flat which was beautifully decorated, clean and in-keeping with the period aesthetic of York. Staff at Stays made checking in easy and we’re friendly and approachable throughout our stay.

Even more impressive in person! It’s like waking up in a film everyday, the view and central location are perfect everything is at your doorstep. The apartment has everything you could possibly need, a truly magical experience!
York Stay
The apartment was very clean, although a bit of attention to detail was needed for the cutlery and crockery. The welcome pack was really thoughtful with some lovely touches. The location was top notch and even though you had to walk through a dentist surgery to get to the apartment, this wasnt a problem. The ceilings were low with it being a loft apartment, but you quickly got used to this. Overall, we would recommend staying here and we know we certainly will be again
Great location; quirky, clean apartment; terrible customer service
Word of caution: book this lovely apartment with a few days notice, avoid last-minute bookings. We were informed on the day of check-in that the flat could not be cleaned and we would need to find another accommodation for the night. We were unable to amend our booking online so we've entered a long process of trying to get a refund for the night - still pending. When we went to check in the next day we were told that check-in was at 4pm, not 3pm as it was advertised online. We asked if we could leave our backpacks somewhere in the meantime as I'm pregnant and didn't want to carry the extra weight but were told no and not given any advice on where it might be possible, despite the store across the street from the office offering the service. The flat itself is lovely and any who stay (as long as you are short) will enjoy it.

A well equipped, romantic property ideal for a getaway in York! Perfect location with the most amazing view of the Minster from the bedroom window. The property was so clean and extremely picturesque. Old traditional style cottage with modern and clean appliances. Really worth the money with the most ideal location in town. Would recommend, will certainly be returning
Relaxing Break

Gorgeous stay at Minster Loft! Spending Halloween week exploring the haunted city, we chose to stay the Minster Loft! The place was very clean and comfortable. Simple layout but everything you need can be found! The view from the bedroom window is spectacular and it’s lovely walking up to the church bells ringing everyday. The bed was super comfortable, the loft was very warm in the morning and evenings. I thought the atmosphere was great - in keeping with the medieval era. Location wise, you can’t get any better. We were pretty much in the middle of York so it was convenient to come and go as we pleased. Nothing bad to say about this place, it was better than we expected! |

Amazing views and fantastically central , everything was exactly what we needed for our short stay.
Superb apartment in a wonderful location.
Excellent location with wonderful views
Minster Loft was a wonderful apartment in terms of its location and views and Chris was very helpful showing me the keys and access. It was always nicely warm and cosy, and a nice place to have a peaceful break. Sadly the provision in the apartment was rather poor for accommodation that was listed as boutique. No bottle of milk in the fridge to allow for that first cup of tea. The Wifi did not reach the bedroom, there were no instructions for the oven and no oven gloves. The cutlery and plates looked as if they had come from the jumble sale and there was no washing up bowl, egg cups or teapot. It was the first apartment I have stayed in at Christmas where no effort was made to decorate which was quite sad. I would agree with the comments passed about it not being suitable for tall people as the ceiling, particularly in the bedroom is low.
Minster Loft
The apartment has a superb view of York Minster. It is well appointed with everything thing you need for a quick getaway or an extended stay. We spent two weeks exploring York and the surrounding area. The apartment has easy access to pubs and bars, restaurants, and shopping, and as well, buses and taxis. The building is very old and the apartment is in a loft on the 4th floor with low ceilings. In my opinion, not suitable for anyone who can not manage stairs well with packages or suitcases etc, or is taller than about 510.
Nice apartment, perfect location
The location is just perfect. The apartment lies in the centre of York, right next to the Minster, in the middle of the old town of York. Although it's location, next to the Minster, it is very quiet in the apartment. There is absolutely no noise from outside you could hear. The furnishing is great, good bed, good linen and the apartment is good equipped. We only had sometimes difficulties to open the door with the keys, that's the only little trouble we had.
