This former piggery, thought to date from the 17th century, has been re-modelled to offer spacious, light and airy accommodation; an ideal base from which to explore this beautiful area.

Set in the heart of the village of Slingsby which is nestled in the Howardian Hills; an AONB, you are well placed to explore the surrounding countryside which is popular with walkers and cyclists alike. Castle Howard is only three miles from the The Pigsty and Sandsend and Whitby, York, Helmsley and The North Yorkshire Moors are all within easy reach.

The accommodation is largely open plan; a perfect space for couples to enjoy. The modern kitchen is well equipped for cooking an evening meal or preparing a hearty breakfast and is fitted with dishwasher and washer/dryer in addition to a Nespresso coffee machine. There is ample dining and seating space for a cosy night in and wall – mounted television with Netflix and Amazon Prime. The sleeping area to the rear boasts a king size bed and shower room beyond. The property is decorated in light, bright tones throughout and benefits from underfloor heating; a must for the chilly Yorkshire winters! Outside is a private, enclosed courtyard with seating for two and there is plentiful on street parking.

Slingsby benefits from an excellent village pub and in the neighbouring village of Hovingham there is a local shop, two bakeries and further pubs while approximately five miles away is Malton; “ Yorkshire’s Food Capital”.

One small dog is accepted at the property but not allowed on the furniture.

Everything we absolutely loved the whole place & location was great with the pub across the street

A good but slightly frustrating stay

The location was easy to get to and instructions to check in were clear. However, we felt that the accommodation itself was a little underwhelming and wasn't necessarily geared up for a stay of more than a night or two. The courtyard was dirty and covered in leaves and little apples which wasn't ideal for having a dog to stay. We decided to brush up the mess and ended up leaving the courtyard in a much better state than when we found it. The door to the courtyard doesn't fit properly and stops you from opening it fully making it difficult to bring bags in and out. We ended up not using the courtyard despite the good weather. The kitchen had most of the appliances you would need however was lacking some pretty standard items such as oven gloves, tongs, a second tea towel, kitchen spray & cloth and perhaps something for making fresh coffee.. There were only two forks. The washing machine door was misaligned, which meant that the cupboard under the sink that housed a bin didn't close properly. The bed was ok but didn't appear to fit the bed frame and seemed like it was a double mattress in a king-size frame. The bathroom was nice however the door to access was far and above the most frustrating part of the stay. It was extremely difficult to open and close fully, very noisy and didn't even cover the entire door frame so you could see in. Cleanliness was fine but there were some dirty spots in places such as between kitchen cupboards, on top of the shower head and there were quite a few spiders around the ceilings. There was also a day where two men were walking back and forth past the window looking in directly at us - this happened multiple times so in the end, we shut the blinds. Otherwise, it was a well-placed accommodation in a nice little village within driving distance of some nearby attractions.

A beautifully presented, quirky accomodation in a fantadtic location. We would highly recommend it for a couple.

We were so appreciative that the staff at Stays York found us this cosy accommodation at short notice and had us booked in in 5 minutes. It’s in the beautiful quiet village of Slingsby which was a great base to explore the rural villages and countryside and seaside of North Yorkshire. We only wish we stayed a few days longer!

Excellent property very comfortable.

This was a wonderful place to stay. It was booked last minute and the communication was excellent!
It is a very peaceful experience - tucked away in the small village of Slingsby. With a modern, open & bright style - it has everything you need to accommodate your stay; WiFi, a TV, comfortable bed, great shower, outdoor seating, and generally just a very clean and well kept environment. You can tell they really take care of the place / us.
With a pub nearby, there is a lovely communal feel to the area. It is a great base to get to Whitby or other coastal towns.
There’s also an hourly bus which takes you into Malton where you can get the train into York - however I would probably suggest a car is best to get you around, especially if you’re staying for a couple days or so.
All in all, a delightful stay in a relaxing, comfortable Pigsty.

Great location to explore the area near by. Peaceful, clean and well equipped. And an amazing pub next door.

Delightful pigsty

The Pigsty provides spotlessly clean, modern, light and airy accommodation, in a very well designed small area. It's slightly minimalist, which suited us, but a few additional touches such as wine glasses as well as tumblers, a coffee table by the sofa and instructions for the heating and television would be welcome. The bathroom door is somewhat artisanal, which is fine, except for the noise when you try to close it. Slingsby is a charming village, and the local pub is very friendly and welcoming. The catering was limited to delicious pizzas while we were there, but no doubt the menu will be increasing soon. Good walking on footpaths, and easy access to other parts of this beautiful area.

Perfect for couples. Nothing was open in the town due to covid which was disappointing however it’s located between York/Scabrough and robin hoods bay (40 min drive each way). wish they would of had blinds on the skylight windows as the daylight woke us up extremely early every morning. Other then this the stay was lovely and comfortable.
