Stonegate Retreat

As a last minute change from original booking we were a bit dubious But when we got in we were very very impressed with it. Plenty of space,2 bathrooms and everything we needed.and right in town and close to minster etc. we will definitely be back and thank you to all the Stays booking team. A great job. 100%

The apartment is in an ideal location for a city break in York. The apartment could do with some attention as it is getting a bit tired. For example wardrobe unusable in one bedroom as doors have come off runners, cooker hob switches position indicators have rubbed off and hob glass is in poor condition, sofas are uncomfortable. There was also a broken chair and fan in the airing cupboard. If these things could be sorted the apartment would be first rate!

Location, Location, Location!!! Stonegate Retreat is a wonderful flat located on Blake Street just off from St Helen’s Square. This unit is in the back of this complex so you are tucked away from the noise of the city & yet get to hear the minster bells. It is a large 2 bedroom flat that looks exactly like the pictures & and is as described. Bedroom doors are very solid providing privacy (my husband was on work calls & i could hear nothing). Stays York was perfect to work with…great communication, clear instructions for location & check-in and an office on High Petergate. I emailed my car reg after picking it up from the car rental office and 5 mins later i had confirmation that it was in the car park system & we were clear to park. We would absolutely stay here again. And we were so happy with Stays York we are using them to book 2 other self catering units during the summer.

Unit was quite nice and in a convenient location. Harder to find than it should have been, as Google routed us to the wrong location and we didn’t immediately spot the entrance. Sofas were not very comfortable and the dining chairs were a bit rickety and coming apart, however the beds were quite comfortable and the unit was well stocked with most things you’d need. We felt it was a good value at the rate we paid and would stay there again. Hopefully those furniture items I mentioned will be updated.

Fabulous apartment right in the centre of York. Very easy check in. Beautiful view of the Minster with everything the city has to offer literally on the doorstep.
Very comfortable stay, well equipped kitchen and comfortable beds.

Great place to stay, for three female school friends, in York. The location is near the Minster, Betty's Tearoom, Shambles...The clean apartment is equiped with everything you need for a short stay, especially the kitchen. It is set back from Stonegate and therefore quiet, except for the beautiful sound of the bells from the minster. We received a generous welcome pack with some lovely treats. The apartment is warm and the airing cupboard is great to dry wet coats.

My wife and I have stayed many times in York, in a wide range of apartments. This is one of the best that we have stayed in. It's in a quite ugly modern development, one of about twenty apartments spread out in an area surrounded by the backs of ancient buildings. However, it's secure and (unlike many parts of the centre of York), it's quiet overnight at weekends. The apartment would work well for two couples sharing, each with their own facilities. A permit is provided for free parking in any of the Council's car parks, the nearest being seven or eight minutes walk away. We got a parking ticket due to an admin error, but Stays York sorted it out without fuss. We would definitely return here.

Great place to stay. Well appointed accommodation. Central for all that York has to offer. I would certainly recommend to anyone wanting to visit York.

Clean, quiet and very comfortable 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment, right in the middle of York, with views of York Minster. Roomy ensuite with shower and huge bathroom with bathtub. Definitely a home away from home, so we extendedour stay. Hosts provide a giftbox that included champers, choccies, biscuits, chips and small sample of tea and coffee which was very much appreciated. Only negative was only 1 coffee pod and one teabag provided which meant we ran out of coffee.

Perfect! Great location, comfortable and welcoming with a fantastic hamper! Will be staying again!!!

Me, my husband and my parents visit York about four times a year. Our usual apartment was fully booked and I managed to find this one online. We were truly amazed at the apartment, firstly because we have walked along here so many times and never even noticed the apartments. Secondly, the views are incredible you really couldn't ask for a better location. Last but certainly not least the apartment was spotless, all the home comforts and extremely well equiped with everything you might need. Parking was an added bonus, only a 5 minute walk from the apartment and very easy to find. Also we made a mistake with our code for getting into the appartment on one of the evenings, completely our own fault we were entering it wrong. However I rang the number provided on the email and the lady I spoke to couldn't of been more helpful. I would certainly reccomend this to all my family and friends and we can't wait for out next visit.

Wonderful stay in a perfectly placed apartment, slap bang in the centre of York. Very quiet and a lovely view of the Minster. Highly recommended and we will be back.

We stayed in this flat at the same time last year and enjoyed the view of the Minster out the side of the window and the central location. Fortunately, nothing has changed in the interim. The flat is on the first floor, so there are a few stairs to negotiate but it is spacious and well-equipped. The beds are comfortable, the sheets and towels good quality. Our only problem was that the duvets were 13.5 Tog, which was far too hot for us, but we improvised.

We visited York for a week and it was the perfect apartment for a family holiday. A brilliant property in the centre of York. Highly recommend! We will definitely book it again when we come back to York.

I've returned from my seventh stay, yes seventh, in Stonegate Retreat. This apartment has been a staple on my Christmas shopping calendar since 2013. I've had experience of this apartment both as a private holiday rental and as a rental through Stays York. This apartment is incredibly well-appointed. It's a stone's throw from The Minster and St Helen's Square, from which you can shop until you drop along the high street and all of the little alleways and ginnels. The apartment offers great living space and a full kitchen, which allows you to enjoy the best of both worlds when it comes to eating: go out, or eat in! The bedrooms are comfortable, clean, and very well-presented. The common areas of the complex are quiet and well-maintained, and on the whole feels a very safe place to stay. My previous stays were booked privately through the previous owner, and exceptional customer service was what kept me returning. The little touches made it an incredibly special place to stay at Christmas. 2022 is the first stay that I have dealt with Stays York from start to finish. Whilst the pre-stay admin went largely without issue, I found myself missing the attention to detail during this stay. Upon arrival, after traveling for some hours, I had to turn around as soon as I had dropped off my bags to go and buy milk and coffee as there was nothing in the apartment. There was a coffee making machine on the kitchen worktop, but I couldn't find anything to use with it. My travel companion and I also had to share the non-slip bath mat as only one non-slip mat and one towelling mat had been provided for the main bathroom and the en suite. In addition, we didn't have any spare toilet roll, which seems a staple item to have available. The information booklet stated that hot water would be ample and constant for the stay, so the cold showers on the Sunday evening came as a bit of a shock. I tried to message the out of hours contact number, but I had no response from that ... not even the following day. I note in a previous review from Summer 2022 that the front door to the apartment needed a lot of force to be closed. We experienced this issue too, and we reported it to the agency. It seems that may be an ongoing niggle. All-in-all, I enjoyed my seventh stay at Stonegate Retreat, but I did think that the 45% increase on what I paid in 2021 was a bit of an inverse spend as some of the basic items I'd expect to be available for a quality holiday rental were not (milk, coffee, spare toilet roll, and enough bath mats for both bathrooms), and issues that appear to be recurring haven't been addressed (namely the sticking front door). I will likely return, as the apartment is perfectly located for my needs, but I do hope that Stays York reviews their attention to detail so that the apartment feels like the special place to stay that I believe it to be.

This was the second time my wife and I stayed at the flat. Excellent location with all amenities close by. Location is quite and safe.

We stayed in this flat many times under it’s previous owner and were grateful to find it still perfect for our time in York. Stays York was lovely to work with and we look forward to a return to this comfortably furnished and quiet flat in the middle of busy York.

My daughter and I, enjoyed our stay in York. We were pleased with the Flat, everything we needed was available to us. We had trouble with the TV upon arrival. not sure how it worked. Once I contacted the office, someone was here within the hour, to help us. Appreciate how fast they came. Location of the flat was perfect, close to everything. They provided a Book, with instructions on everything we needed to know. Made it much easier. The only negative thing I have to point out. Is closing the front Door. We had to really slam it shut, in order for it to close. We must have bothered the neighbours when doing this, I did contact the office, about this issue. Otherwise a lovely place, we wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again. Thanks Ann & Janice

We have stayed here on numerous occasions and never been disappointed. Great Central location and unbelievably quiet. Lovely outdoor area all well maintained. This is first time we have booked with Stays York and can't fault there efficiency. Staff very helpful and polite could recommend this company now.

We came by train but still found it hard to get into the flat because we couldn't get the digital pad at the front door to work for about 10 minutes. But once that was sussed, the rest of the stay was perfect. The location could hardly be bettered, just a few minutes' walk from the Minster and the heart of old York. It was terrific having a partial view of the Minster out of the window and we loved siting in the little tub chair watching the light play on the west front, as well as on the backs of the old houses in Stonegate with their red tiles. We do a lot of our own cooking and were delighted to find an enormous Marks & Spencer Food Hall just down the road, although there was also a small Sainsbury's around the corner for things we had forgotten - and of course Betty's for scones and cakes. The kitchen was very well equipped but we did keep bashing our heads on the (glass) hob cover! Very comfortable mattresses and nice sheets; the lined curtains kept out most of the morning light. The only disappointment was the bath towels, which were not big enough for my husband, and didn't dry us very well, we suspect because too much fabric softener has been used. We would certainly try to come back to this flat another time and will recommend it to others who may be thinking of enjoying a few days in this delightful wee city.

The apartment was very clean and tastefully furnished. 2 good sized bedrooms with nice en-suite in one. Apartment is in a great central location just off Blake St. Partial views of York Minster and the rooftops of central York. Free parking pass provided with car park a 5 minute walk away. Homeless did sometimes use main access door area at street level to sit in or sleep but not really an issue. Overall a great central apartment that I would highly recommend and would certainly stop here again.

This apartment provides excellent value for money & is in a perfect central location (next door to New Look on Blake St) Using post code Y01 7EF (Duncombe Place) in sat nav enables you to stop off very briefly & then walk to drop off luggage & collect parking permit from inside the apartment before parking at NCP Bootham. The apartment is very well appointed with no noise issues. The apartment is very well equipped with absolutely everything required for self catering including basics tea coffee etc.

Great location with a car park about 20 minutes walk from the apartment. Comfortable and modern and well equipped. There is a lift to the first level then a short flight of stairs to the actual apartment which has lovely city views.

Excellent apartment, exterior cladding not complete though, could do with a little update/maintenance. If arriving by car before 8pm can be a challenge to get parked up in the closest car park as the area is pedestrianised between 1030am and 8pm, would be better if arrived by train/taxi. Entrance to all apartments at the complex does get used by homeless with being in York centre. But other than that a very relaxed/comfortable/quiet (apart from minister/church bells ringing!!).

This beautifully clean and very well-appointed flat is in the perfect location for exploring the beautiful city of York. Just a stone's throw from the Minster and with fabulous views of it from the balcony, it is surprisingly quiet given its location right at the heart of the city. Highly recommended either for families or adult travellers. We would stay here again for sure.

The apartment is brilliant. There is everything that you need there and more. It is very clean. The location is great, as it is in the centre (so close to the shops and restaurants) but it is quite quiet (as it is not right on the street itself). The view is amazing, loved seeing the York Minster everyday. I had a wonderful stay, with a brilliant apartment, location and view.
