A true one of a kind property that has been stylishly refurbished in 2024 throughout to provide an exquisite finish whilst retaining the 16th century features and boasting views of York Minster.
This stunning 16th-century apartment is ideal for couples or families wanting to explore the sights of the city and the natural beauty of the surrounding countryside. Situated above the renowned Mannion & Co cafe in the city centre, you are surrounded by independent shops and eateries amongst the cobbled streets, as well as having views of magnificent York Minster.
You're also within a few hundred metres of York's many interesting attractions. Beyond the walls, there is some picturesque countryside to be explored on foot or by bike. As its age would suggest, this charming apartment is packed with original features, but these are blended seamlessly with contemporary style and decor to create a luxurious apartment. Whilst exposed beams, wooden panelling and exquisite fireplaces add character, the crisp white walls and neutral palette make it feel bright and fresh throughout. Occasional pops of colour add comfort and interest.
After ascending the staircase past the Mannion's Cafe below, you will find yourself in the kitchen/diner. This light and airy room is well-equipped with everything you'll need to cook up some tasty treats. It has bespoke cabinets and an interesting breakfast bar and separate dining table. You'll find Miele appliances, Duolit kettle & toaster and Burleigh crockery.
Moving through the lounge, you will appreciate the sense of comfort. Its focal point is the fireplace (decorative only), whilst the handmade pure cotton, velvet chairs and handmade mohair sofa all by George Smith, invite you to sink into them. Once again, exposed beams in the walls remind you of the apartment's heritage. There is the added bonus of a piano in this room for those with an inclination to tinkle on the ivories.
Also on this floor is one of the 3 bedrooms. The peaceful master bedroom with a king-size handmade bed, made by the finest bedmaker in Britain, will make you feel like you're sleeping like on a cloud. This room has magnificent wall-panelling, painted for a contemporary twist and the sumptuous curtains add to the sense of grandeur.
Upstairs is the twin room. The vaulted ceiling adds space and light, but there is restricted height in places. The well presented double bedroom lies opposite the twin room with the bathroom of the property on the same floor featuring a luxuriously large walk in shower.
Outside there is a small seating area and an outbuilding down the stairs housing a washer/dryer for your private use.
There is no parking included with the property but Marygate car park, amongst others, offers overnight parking less than a 10 minute walk away. The train station is just a 6-7 minute walk away with the convenience of a taxi rank right outside on Duncombe Place.

Charming apartment that makes you travel back in time

The effort made to adapt its beautiful architecture to modern needs is remarkable. In terms of aspects to improve, it would be worth considering the possibility of including a second bathroom on the first floor, access is a bit inconvenient, we had problems with the heating and the double room had rubbish under the beds.
Fabulous!

Great location

We had a great stay at Chez Mannion. Was very quaint and felt like home. We had a tall guest with us and due to age of apt very low ceilings was a little tight upstairs. The best part was hearing teh bells of Yorkminster throughout the day. The location was excellent as could walk everywhere very easily. Had to park and parking was close and affordable. Would stay again!
Theatre Tour Stay

We stayed at Chez Mannion whilst on tour in the Grand Opera House and it was a wonderful stay. The beds were really luxurious and the kitchen was really well equipped with plenty of basics to get us started as well as a lovely welcome hamper! The property had such a cosy feel and we would definitely book if we are ever in York again!

Lovely apartment right in the heart of the city. Waking up the sound of York Minster's bells is truly magical.
