The Shambles Market is home to a hidden food haven. There is a collection of food trucks throughout the market where you can get a traditional Greek Gyros at Stam and Maria’s to start and then finish off with a Crepe from Krep...if you can manage.
Known as being one of the top places to eat in York and they do not disappoint. They have a range of brunch/lunch recipes and an array of cakes to choose from depending what you fancy. I would recommend the scrambled eggs – the best I’ve ever had!
Looking for somewhere to grab a pizza and a drink? From your standard margarita to a vegan mushroom, garlic rosemary and vegan cheese option, there is a slice of pizza for everyone. Here you can enjoy a cold beer or soft drink with your slice of pizza and just relax away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
New to York in the last year is Cut and Craft, where it pretty much says what it is. Perfect cuts of steak served with craft beer (other drinks are also available). They run a no booking policy so you can just show up and see if there is a table available. This means they are not in a rush for you to leave to make a table vacant for a booking. It is a lively atmosphere where you can enjoy great quality food, whatever the meal.
If you are wanting an authentic Italian restaurant in a British city then look no further. Mamma Mia’s down Gillygate has been a part of York for years. Their food is as Italian as you can get outside of Italy itself and the staff are fantastic. Best tomato garlic bread I’ve had in the UK. You will definitely need to book this on a weekend as they are nearly always full!!
